1. Game of the Month: Dice Game
2. It talks! + 100s of new worksheets
3. And Finally + Valentine's
Hello,
It's only been a couple of weeks since the last newsletter, but there's
so much new stuff for you I thought you'd like to know...
1. Game of the Month: Dice
1. Put the students into groups of 4 or 5.
2. Each group sits down in a circle.
3. Give each group a die.
4. You assign a number from 2-12 for each piece of vocab. It's best to let the students decide which ones are which. Write down the number next to the
picture card on the board.
5. The students shout out the appropriate question, e.g. "What do you do?" for
occupations. It's important that the kids are not just learning vocab, but are learning
the questions and answers together.
6. One person in the group rolls the die. The students remember the number.
7. The same person rolls the die again.
8. The students add up the numbers and then shout out the corresponding
answer. i.e. if they roll 2 and then 5, they shout out the answer on the
picture card next to number 7.
9. The fastest person to call out the correct answer then becomes the die
roller and you repeat from 6.
Now the eagle eyed amongst you might have noticed that this has been a
popular game on the site for quite a long time. So why make it game of
the month now? Because... we have a new present for you: lots & lots
of new printable dice, almost one for every theme. "But Genki English
themes mostly have 8 answers?" you may say. And yes, most of the dice
are 8 sided ones! Kids often haven't seen 8 sided ones (they do look good)
and get a kick out of making them up themselves. You can find them on the
right hand side of most of the songs pages on the GenkiEnglish.com site.
Enjoy.
2. It talks! + more worksheets
But it's not just dice that are new, if you now have a look at most of
the songs pages you can download pdf A4 picture cards, colour
and black & white mini cards, individual lesson plans in English and Japanese
plus printable spaghetti, islands and snakes & ladders worksheets,
all from the one page. The spaghetti worksheets are great for when you
need to test the kids, the snakes & ladders games are proving to be
a really popular review game.
This now means the top pictures on each song's page are now freed up so
when you click on a picture it talks.
As an English speaker you may be thinking, "Why on Earth would you
want to do that?". But it's fantastic for non-native speaker teachers
to quickly check their pronunciation or, even better, for kids to hear
how to pronounce a word they don't know.
Have a try yourself, just select your favourite song from
http://genkienglish.net/songs.htm, click the pictures and print out the new worksheets.
3. And finally...
If you're looking for Valentine's ideas then the Broken Hearts game (
http://genkienglish.net/valentinebrokenheart.htm ) is always really popular with older kids (including Junior High and
above), and for younger kids, try the "Make a Valentine's card"
page:
http://genkienglish.net/valentine.htm
Last month's "Photo Real Flashcards" were a big hit, so expect
more of those towards the end of next week on my blog. And for the moment
enjoy all the 100s of new worksheets on the site... www.GenkiEnglish.com
Be genki,
Richard
