Hello,
Here's this month's selection of ideas and news.
1. Game of the Month: Double Easter Egg Karuta
As Easter is early this year, March 23rd, you could maybe fit a couple
of Easter lessons in before the term finishes. There are lots of great
Easter games on the site, including the very popular "Chocolate Monster",
at
http://www.genkienglish.net/eastersong.htm.
And here's a nice Easter game you can use to review the term's work ...
1. At one end of the room have several cut out Easter eggs with (pictures
of) vocab / language on the back.
2. At the other end of the class have several mini-cards of each vocab
/ language item.
3. Two people from each team run.
4. One person goes to the eggs, picks one up, turns it over and shouts
out what is on the back.
5. The other person then picks up this mini card and hands it to the teacher
whilst saying the word or phrase.
6. The next two people from each team run and repeat from step 4.
7. The team who has given the most mini-cards to the teacher is the winner.
If you keep the eggs and mini-cards far apart the kids have to be really
clear when shouting out and listening to the English. They could cheat
and run to see the Easter Egg before going for the mini cards, but speaking
is much quicker and is the only way to win.
For lower level groups you could try vocab, but for older kids complete
sentences are better. Sticking mini-cards to the back of the Easter Eggs
is probably the easiest way to prepare them and there are mini-cards available
on the Genki English site for just about all the themes.
Enjoy.
2. New Team Taught Pizza
If you teach in Junior High School or are wanting a big huge book of game
ideas and teaching hints then the Team Taught Pizza book is for you. Unfortunately
they're all sold out.
The good news, however, is that the authors AJET have just brought out
its successor called "Planet Eigo". It's fully bilingual, great
for team teaching and just the thing to bring a little excitement to your
Junior High School lessons. We ran out of the first stock we got in last
week, but we should have another delivery this week for you.

3. YouTube videos of real classes
"Not tested on animals. Tested on kids!" is one of the Genki English taglines. So I've just put up some new YouTube videos where you can see how the songs and activities work with real kids. There are several songs and also the first ten minutes of my model demo class, which has lots of motivation points, class control points and little hints and ideas to get the most out of the lesson. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Have a look on my YouTube channel at:
http://www.youtube.com/GenkiJapanNet
If you like the videos, please give them some good marks and I'll see if
I can make some more.
4. And finally...
Next month's newsletter will have not one but two Indiana Jones games,
keep tuned in.
Plus don't forget the daily news and ideas on my blog.
If you have your own blog or website I'd also really appreciate any links
you could make to any of your favourite content on Genki English. The more
people who visit, the more new stuff I can make for everyone.
Enjoy the Easter Game and be sure to check the other Easter games, picture
cards, song and picture book on the Genki English website.
Be genki,
Richard
